Well the long awaited day is here- it is Victoriadagen 2017! And this year is extra special as it is the Crown Princess's 40th Birthday. To mark the day, the family attended a Te Deum (Thanksgiving Service) at Stockholm Palace Church this morning afterwards a reception is being hosted at Logården.
Following this reception there will be a cortege with the Crown Princess Family through the streets of Stockholm. In the evening the entire family will be in Öland for the annual Victoriadagen Concert.
This morning at the Te Deum, the entire royal family (including all 5 grandchildren) were in attendance. First to arrive was Princess Madeleine and her family.
Today the royal family is attending the private funeral service for longtime family friend and Royal Court employee Alice Trolle Wachtmeister.
Alice passed away peacefully on 26 June peacefully at her home Trolle Ljungby Castle at the age of 91. She served in her roll as Mistress of the Robes, the highest female position in the Swedish Royal Court from 1994 until December 2015. Before this she served as First Lady of the Court and the head of the Queen's Household since 1978. In this role, she was one of the first, outside of the family, to see each of the newborn children.
She has been a close advisor and an invaluable friend of the family. Alice once said that she tried to leave her position as Mistress of the Robe multiple times, however the King refused to let her. He finally gave in 2015 when it became clear that due to her bone disease and age, she could not follow the family daily any longer. At that time she said that she would still be available by phone to offer advice and support to the royal family, which they took her up on many times. It is clear that the entire Royal Family held her in high regard and this is reflected in both the King and Crown Princess' statements released about her passing.
The funeral service was held today at 13:00 at Trolle Ljungby Church in Skåne. All the (adult) family members, except for Chris, were in attendance. (Chris had some prearranged business meetings) The King and Queen left from Solliden via car this morning with Victoria and Daniel following not too far behind them. It is believed that Carl Philip, Sofia, and Madeleine came from Stockholm. Princess Benedikte of Denmark was also in attendance.
For this funeral, Victoria rewore an Alberto Biani lace suit from his Spring 2005 collection. She carried an old clutch and used old black satin pumps. Madeleine and Sofia both opted for new black dresses, and a corresponding jacket for Madeleine. Madeleine carried her Marc Jacobs clutch with her Jimmy Choo pumps while Sofia used her black crocodile bag from Mix & Match, with Stinaa.J pumps.
While the Swedish Royals have begun their Summer Holidays, I thought this would be the perfect time to write a series of posts talking about various spots in Stockholm that the Royal Family have been known to visit. I expect this series to be a 3 part: Shopping, Dining, and then a site-seeing/miscellaneous category. Disclaimer although I have never been to Stockholm, but I do read a lot about it and try to keep up with the Royal Family's favorite spots and have virtually toured the streets more than I wish to admit!
First up on our list is NK (Nordiska Kompaniet), where you will find 80% of the Swedish Royal Family's favorite brands. Located on Hamngatan, the department store was opened in 1915 by Josef Sachs and has long been a favorite for many generations. The Royal Armoury in Stockholm has a large archive of the previous generations of Swedish royal's clothes. Queen Louise, King Gustav Adolf, and Princess Sibylla all have items in the Armoury which bare the NK Label. These days, it is a favorite shopping spot for Victoria, Sofia, and Madeleine.
There are hundred of brands available in NK as well as a variety of different services that you can spoil yourself with. With services such as Personal Shopping, Hair Dressers, Makeup Artists and Consultants, Tailoring, Catering, and Florist- NK is really your one-stop shop for all things in Stockholm. Madeleine and Victoria's favorite gown designer, Fadi el Khoury, is also exclusively available at NK's Rosenrumment. And while you are checking out all the fabulous brands and services available, keep your eyes open- you just might run into one of your favorite royals while browsing for a new addition to your wardrobe!
Next up on our list is probably a store not too many of you have heard of here on the blog, but it is an old favorite for the family. Marzio is an Italian Shoe Store located on Nybrogatan and while we don't see the royals wear this brand everyday- I still catch them slipping into the brand from time to time. The Swedish Press has reported shopping sprees Madeleine and Victoria have had here during their sale events and even Princess Birgitta has been seen carrying a shopping bag from the store. Just last summer Queen Silvia was spotted wearing a pair of their house-brand flats!
Rizzo is a name that I am sure more of you are familiar with compared to Marzio as it has been seen on the blog more often. We first started to see the store's house brand pop up on the feet of the family about two years ago, however it has been a long favorite. Not only does the store carry the house brand, but they also have a selection of other brands in stock so you are sure to find the right pair of shoes for any occasion.
Below you will find a walking map including these stores, plus a few other favorites on the way! Stay tuned for a future post about dining which would be a great compliment to a day of shopping in Stockholm! If you have any must-visit places in Stockholm, leave them in the comments!
Today, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel attended a lunch held by the King an Queen at the Royal Palace for the President of Botswana. The President has been visiting Sweden since the 19th of June and has had the opportunity to meet with the Swedish Prime Minister as well as other members of the government. This is his last day in Sweden.
For this meeting Crown Princess Victoria paired her red Rizzo Azelia pumps with a new dress from Camilla Thulin. The Alvine Rose White dress is 100% silk and is inspired by Italy's warm climate. She also wore a red belt which I do not believe we have ever seen before. She wore a necklace and likely a pair of earrings- but the photos are not of good enough quality for me to tell what they are. (I am thinking probably Efva Attling Clouds and Stars)
If you are like me and love this outfit, but unfortunately cannot either afford it or cannot get them shipped to you (aka live outside of Scandinavia)- check out these similar pieces to steal the look for less!
Today the Stockholm Based Royal Family attended the Polar Music Prize! (If you want to look back at last years outfits, click here for our full recap!) The Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 by Stig "Stikkan" Anderson- the publisher, manager, and lyricist of ABBA. The award is one of the most prestigious awards in music as it is given to individuals, bands, and institutions and is awarded to a musicians in a variety of genres from around the world. The King has been presenting the award for many years. Previous winners have included Yo-Yo Ma, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, and Elton John- to name a few. This year, the prize was awarded to Sting and Wayne Shorter.
Crown Princess Victoria surprised us all by wearing her hair down this evening- Victoria has been photographed once with her hair down since the 2012 Polar Music Prize. Let's just say the Royal Fandom is going a little crazy with excitement and joy! She wore an old pair of Yves Saint Laurent Sandals and carried her Oasis clutch. (Same clutch that the Duchess of Cambridge has used in the past). Her bracelet comes from Cornilia Webb and rings from Kreuger Jewellery. Her gown is a new creation by Diana Orving custommade just for the Crown Princess. Her earrings are also new and come from Engelbert Stockholm and are their twist earrings with diamonds.
Princess Madeleine joined her family at the Prize Ceremony for the first time. She has previously only attended the banquet.
This year she wore a new gown (or top and skirt as we suspect) is from the Swedish Designer Ida Sjöstedt. She paired it with a new pair of earrings, new Marchesa Sandals, and a Bottega Veneta Clutch. Her earrings are new but unfortunately no one has claimed them and we have not been able to find them.
Queen Silvia was also there leading the family into the ceremony on the arm of the King.
She wore a gown from Alexis first seen in Indonesia.
