This evening Princess Madeleine officially opened the Longines FEI European Championships in Gothenburg at Ullevi Stadium. The FEI, or Fédération Équestre Internationale, holds it's European World Championships every 2 years. This year, over 300 of Europe's top equestrian riders and drivers will be meeting in Gothenburg to compete for medals in Jumping, Dressage, Driving and Para-Equestrian Dressage. These competitors come from over 30 different countries and include 590 horses, 4,000 accredited participants, and 1400 volunteers.
This year Princess Madeleine, who is an accomplished equestrian herself, agreed to attend the opening ceremonies and official open the championships. Princess Madeleine competed in jumping for a while, but had to stop due to the increased presence of photographers at the competitions. Madeleine has recounted how there were times the photographers would step out in front of her horse to get a photo making it an unsafe environment for both herself and the photographers as well as the horses and other competitors.
Princess Madeleine always has the best expressive faces! These photos below caught my eye and I could not resist adding it to this post! She certainly looks happy to be in attendance (sentiments which she echoed on her Facebook Page)
Princess Madeleine is not the only member of the family who is interested in horses. All three of the Royal Couple's children ride well as well as the King and Queen themselves. These days Princess Estelle and Princess Leonore seem to be taking in the family's footsteps of horse loving and both were given horses as Baptism Gifts. (Although at Leonore's first meeting with her horse- she was more intrigued by the field of grass than the horse...) Princess Madeleine is also not the only member of the Royal Family who will be attending the Championships- the King and Queen will attend the closing ceremonies on the 27th of August.
Speaking of the King and Queen, this evening they attended the opening evening of Östersjöfestivalen (The Baltic Sea Festival) held at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Swedish Royal Photographer Extraordinaire Pelle T Nilsson was kind enough to share with me these photos from the evening.
If you have never heard of Pelle, then you are seriously missing out. He is the only photographer that I have found that consistently takes photos of all the little details of a Royal's outfit's that makes my job of identifying SO much easier! (Speaking of which- anyone have any ideas about the Queen's clutch? It is relatively new and driving me crazy!)
With that said, I say it is time we took a look at Princess Madeleine's outfit. For this evening ceremony, Madeleine mixed some older favorites with some fabulous new pieces. Starting with he shoes, she debuted a new pair Chloe Lauren Ankle Strap Pumps. (Thanks Laura for pointing these out!) She paired these with a new printed skirt from Marni and white ruffled blouse (which we have been able to identify). Her jacket dates all the way back to 2009 when she wore it to the inauguration ceremony for Sweden's presidency of the EU at Skansen. While writing this post I stumbled upon it and found it is also from Chloe. She finished the look with Star Studs from Ebba Brahe which she has had for over a year now.
