After each parliamentary election, the King and Queen traditionally invite the new members of parliament, the government and representatives of the Riksdag's leadership to a supper with entertainment, typically a concert. The last dinner was held in October 2014 with the King, Queen, Crown Princess, Prince Daniel, and Prince Carl Philip in attendance. This time, Princess Sofia joins the family for the first time.

The musical program was compiled by the court organist Mary Ljungqvist Hén on behalf of, and in consultation with, the King. The program, held in Rikssalen, featured a performance of the lyrical piece from 1940, Förklädd gud, performed by Lilla Akademiens’s symphony theater, Stockholm Chamber Choir, Lovö church choir, Castle Church vocal ensemble and Castle Choir.

After the concert, the Royal Family went to the Pelarsalen in Bernadotte floor where they received and greeted the evening's 432 guests. Following this greeting, dinner was served intThe Consul Hall, Audience Room, Gustav III's Parade Bedroom and Karl XI's Gallery. These parliamentary dinners are the largest dinners that are held repeatedly at the palace which is why multiple rooms were needed to hold the guests.
