Crown Princess Victoria Awards Merit Medals at the Palace
Today Crown Princess Victoria participated in the board meeting of the Crown Princess Margareta Veterans Reserve Foundation.
The Crown Princess Margareta's Veteran Reserve Foundation is chaired by the Crown Princess. The Foundation supports objectives relating to voluntary defense work. The foundation began in August 1914 under the initiative of then Crown Princess Margareta at the start of World War I when the Veteran Reserves were mobilized frequently to maintain Swedish neutrality. When it began, the committee was known as The Crown Princess’ Central Committee for Clothing and Equipping the Veteran Reserve and Crown Princess Margareta chaired the committee. At the end of 1915, many local committees were combined to form a national association named the Clothing Association.
The Clothing Association was closed in 1921, the year after Crown Princess Margareta’s death, and in its place the Veteran Reserve Foundation was created. The board of this new foundation was chaired by her husband Crown Princess Gustaf Adolf. Upon his ascension, King Gustaf VI Adolf appointed his son, Prince Bertil to be the chairperson and in 2009, Crown Princess Victoria took the honorary membership. The foundation was known as the Veteran Reserve Foundation until 1996 when it was renamed Crown Princess Margareta’s Veteran Reserve Foundation.
During today’s meeting, Crown Princess Victoria passed out Merit Medals to Jonny Pettersson and Stefan Magnusson. Merit Medals are awarded in the denominations Silver in the 8th size and Gold as table medal in 13th size. Merit Medals can be awarded to individuals for contributions within or for voluntary defense activities according to the objectives of the Landstorm Foundation or be awarded for contributions within or for the Landstormsfonden.
For this board meeting, Crown Princess Victoria wore her & Other Stories Floral Midi dress with Carl Edmond Watch. She wore old silver hoop with blue pendant earrings and blue suede pumps. She also had her regular collection of silver bracelets on her left wrist.
