Crown Princess Victoria Names R/V Svea in Lysekil
Today, Crown Princess Victoria was in Lysekil to officially name the R/V Svea at its home port in Gullmarskajen.
This new ship is Sweden's new ocean-going research vessel and is especially adapted for research and environmental monitoring of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. While it’s core business is ecosystem studies- focusing specifically on the regular monitoring of fish stocks and water quality, the ship is also equip to conduct research on climate change, map and monitor marine biodiversity, perform eutrophication research, take measurements of carbon dioxide and the acidification of the oceans caused by the carbon dioxide as well as measure oxygen and the distribution of oxygen-free and low-oxygen bottoms.
The ship was built in 2017-2019 by the Armon shipyard in Vigo, Spain and is designed by Skipsteknisk AS. Built to hold a crew of 28, the ship is 69.50 meters long and has a max speed of 13.5 knots. It is one of the quietest and most environmentally friendly research vessels in the world. The R/V Svea is owned by SLU and the Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible for the operation.
Crown Princess Victoria has a deep commitment, passion, and connection to issues surrounding sustainability- especially in relationship to fishing sustainability and the Baltic Sea. She has been an outspoken participant about her own concerns and has championed the SeaBOS Initiative in an effort to help connect the key players of the fishing industry with the leading scientists to make a change in the right direction. For her efforts in marine sustainability, The Crown Princess was named one of the 17 appointed ambassadors for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocacy Group . The group's task is to promote the UN's goals for sustainable development, Agenda 2030 in various ways.
Victoria wore her Andiata coat which she debuted in Denmark last week with her By Ti Mo printed dress. She also wore her Kreuger Jewellery earrings, her Epoch watch and her af Klingberg ankle boots. It looks like she also carried a new clutch.
