Prince Carl Philip runs Race for Small Lives
On Sunday, 28 April, Prince Carl Philip ran the 5K benefiting Lilla Barnets at Haga Park.
Prince Carl Philip has been patron of Lilla Barnets fond since 2009. Lilla Barnet Fond (Little Child’s Fund), is a nonprofit organization which aims to raise funds for research and more support for newborn care in Sweden. 1 out of every 10 newborns end up in the Neonatal department in Sweden and the foundation aims to provide additional research and resources to lower this ratio. Care during these first weeks of life are crucial for the small child's future health and development. Diseases and complications that affect newborns can lead to loss of life. But in spite of that, the resources are for research and development in this area was limited.
This race, Spring för lilla livet , is one way the foundation fundraises. Runners have the option to complete a 5K or 10K and all the proceeds go to funding Swedish Research for newborn babies. Prince Carl Philip ran the 5K in 2014, 2018, and again in 2019. After he completed the 5K, he talked to children who participated in the children’s race (400 m) which is held after the adult race.
