Princess Sofia attends Sophiahemmet Graduation
Bookended by the South Korean State Visit, Princess Sofia squeezed into her schedule time to attend the graduation ceremony of Sophiahemmet University.
Princess Sofia took over as Honorary President of the hospital, succeeding her Aunt-in-Law Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnusson in January 2016. Princess Christina became Honorary President of the prestigious Hospital and University in 1972 and saw the University through difficult times of shut down and also rebirth.
Sophiahemmet Group is a non-profit which operates both Sophiahemmet Hospital and Sophiahemmet University. The university was created by Queen Sophia and King Oscar II in 1883 after the Queen was inspired after a trip to London and a meeting with Florence Nightingale. Queen Sofia said that the country was in need of nurses and care "in pace with the time" and thus the school was born. The hospital, one of Sweden’s oldest private hospitals, was named after Queen Sofia and inaugurated in 1889. This year, the hospital is celebrating their 125th Anniversary.
Today, Princess Sofia handed out the honors to Sophiasysters at Sophiahemmet- a private hospital in Stockholm. Sophiasysters are graduates of the Sophiahemmet University, a school for nurses to get their education. Once they have graduated to trained nurses they are called Sophiasyster or a "Sophia Sister".
For this event, Princess Sofia wore a & Other Stories floral dress, which she first debuted last July. She carried an old black clutch, Stinaa.J Suede Pumps in Light pInk and finished the look with her Ole Lynggaard Circus bracelet. Her hair blocked the view but she appeared to be wearing hoop earrings.
