Royal Family Attends Annual Parliament Opening

Royal Family Attends Annual Parliament Opening

Today, the Stockholm based Royal Family members attended the traditional opening of Swedish Parliament (Riksdag). Following with tradition, the day began with a church service at Stockholm Cathedral.

Following the church service, the family rode in the horse drawn carriages down the street to the Government Building. There, the opening ceremony will start in the Chamber. At the request of the Speaker, Andreas Norlén, King Carl XVI Gustaf will declare the Riksdag session open. Prime Minister Stefan Löfven will then read the Statement of Government Policy, presenting the Government's intended policies for the coming year. The ceremony in the chamber is filled with song and music. Among other things, music will be performed by singer Anna Larsson.

For the past 4 years, the opening session has highlighted regional areas around Sweden, and this year continues that tradition. This year, the focus will be on the five Swedish provinces of Härjedalen, Medelpad, Hälsingland, Dalarna and Gästrikland. The theme will be represented in the program, the food and the decorations. Princess Sofia is from Dalarna and her son Prince Gabriel is Duke of Dalarna while Princess Madeleine is Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland.

In the evening, the family will attend a concert at the Konserthuset (Stockholm Concert Hall). This year the performance will be hosted by Concert Manager Stefan Forsberg. The evening is organized by the Concert Hall and the Royal Philharmonic and will be conducted by Mika Eichenholz.

The traditional dress code for Parliament's Opening is black and white in recognition of the old court dresses that the ladies used to wear to the opening session.

Victoria wore her Milly Marza Bow jacket with a black skirt and blouse underneath. It is the fourth time that she has worn this jacket to the Opening of Parliament. She paired the outfit with an old black clutch, new pumps from Flattered and new earrings from Cravingfor Jewellery. On her wrist, her Carl Edmond Granit watch could be seen under her jacket sleeve. She polished off the look with her Malinda Damgaard Butterfly Fascinator pinned to her white braided headpiece.

Sofia wore her old Ahlvar silk black blouse with a new high waisted black pencil skirt. She also opted to wear an old ufo clutch and her Rizzo bordeaux pumps. To match her shoes, she debuted a new matching velvet bow and headband piece from Headpieces by M. Her hat is actually 2 separate pieces allowing her versatility to wear them in the future. She finished the look she wore her stunning diamond earrings, first seen at the Te Deum for the King’s 70th Birthday.
