Royal Family Attends the Global Child Forum Partner Advisory Board
On Wednesday , 27 March, the King, Queen, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, and Princess Sofia attended the Global Child Forum Partner Advisory Board at the Royal Palace.
The Global Child Forum (previously called World Child & Youth Forum) was initiated in 2009 by the King and Queen. It operates as an independent platform for discussion, knowledge and interactivity based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The aim is that decision-makers from companies, states, civil society and academia should achieve more and obtain concrete results for the world's children through greater cooperation and coordination of resources.
Each year the royal couple host a meeting at the palace for the Forum’s partners to discuss and hear from featured speakers. For this meeting the agenda focused on how the Global Child Forum and their partners could continue the strategic work together in the future. This year marks the 10th year of the Forum since its creation in 2009 and the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child.
The King opened the meeting with a speech where he spoke to the mission of the day’s meeting:
Now, it is time to look ahead: In the next 10 years, how can Global Child Forum become even more relevant? How can we help more businesses change children’s lives for the better? And what new opportunities need to be identified and explored? This, I look forward to discussing with you today.
Following the day’s keynote speakers, the Queen closed the day with a speech where she spoke again to the future but also looked back to what has been accomplished in the 10 years since the forum’s conception:
One generally thinks of an anniversary as a time to celebrate, but for Global Child Forum it’s a time to take stock. Certainly we are proud of what we have accomplished. And we have accomplished much. But there is much to be done.
In the past 10 years, the Global Child Forum has held many forums. These forums originally were solely held at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, but in 2014 the first forum was held abroad in Dubai. In total there have been 10 forums to date with 6 forums held in Stockholm and 4 held abroad.
